Remember your object permanence
To remember your object permanence means to remember that a particular object is still present even if you can’t see it physically.
Babies, for example, haven’t developed this; hence the reason why they cry when their moms drop them and move out of their sight. They suddenly think, “Oh, I can’t see Mum; she must be dead.”
And in the same way, I sometimes struggle with object permanence in regard to God – not my mum, though😂. And you may be struggling as well; who knows (well, you know).
But in those times I’ve learnt that when we go through trials, when we’re broke and we don’t know where the next meal will come from,
or when we are waiting for something and it seems to be taking forever,
or when we are lost and don’t seem to know what to do next,
or when we lose a loved one and don’t seem to know the essence of life anymore,
Look to God.
Isaiah 43 vs 1-2 talks about how when we go through deep waters, God has promised to be with us; when we go through rivers of difficulty, He will not let us drown; and when we walk through the fire of oppression, we will not be burnt up.
(Also notice how the Bible says “when”, which implicates we would go through all this; it’s just a matter of when, but God in his infinite love for us has already promised to take care of us through those dark times.)
So when we go through all these, let us learn to lean into the promises of God. (Don’t go to anything else, looking to numb the pain or feeling, but rest in God.)
Remember your object permanence.
Remember and know that God is there with you through it all.
Right now, right there, He’s by your side.
God is faithful, and we will see the light of day❤️.
